My name is Steve Marsh and I have been a professional artist and illustrator since completing an HND in Illustration and Design at art college way back in 1984.
Over the years I have started to specialize in painting pet portraits for family, friends, and as commissions, enjoying every minute in the process of capturing the likeness of a much loved pet on canvas. Your pet portrait (dog portrait, cat portrait or horse portrait) is completely hand painted by me, using traditional techniques in artist’s watercolours or oils on canvas.
I live in the UK in a small town in Northamptonshire and willingly accept work worldwide. I also teach “Creative Painting and Illustration techniques” and exhibit my work locally.
My work is very affordably priced and I am happy to take on all portrait commissions, for example: a cherished classic car, a holiday memory and virtually any subject of your choice including of course pet portraits - horse portraits, dog portraits, cat portraits and exotic animals too!

Contemporary or Traditional Portraits, the choice is yours...
In addition to the more traditional "life like" pet portraits (depicted above), I also enjoy painting pet portraits in a more contemporary style. These artworks are still hand painted by me in oils on canvas, but I recommend painting onto box canvases so that they can be hung directly onto the wall.
Medium to large canvas sizes from 16" x 20" up to 24" x 36" work best and look absolutely stunning as a piece of contemporary wall art. The background colours can be chosen to complement both your pet and your decor too! Please state whether you would like a "contemporary" or "traditional" style of pet portrait and preferred canvas size when ordering. Painting prices are similar but I need to buy in the larger canvases when required as part of your order.
How it works...
Once you have chosen to commission, for example: a “pet portrait” painting... all you have to do is decide the size and media that you would like me to use, artist’s watercolour or oil on canvas. You will then need to email or post a selection of photographs of your pet or chosen subject to me as reference, (please see my “Ordering a Portrait”web page) for photography tips and choosing the best size/ media for your portrait.
I can provide a complete service...from unique hand painted pet portraits, to off the shelf and bespoke framing, high quality colour copies of your dog portrait, cat portrait, horse portrait/ painting and secure insured delivery to your door both locally and worldwide!
